Deacons Captain, Tony Purpur retires after 22 seasons as the teams 4th leading scorer in franchise history.

Deacons Captain, Tony Purpur retires after 22 seasons as the teams 4th leading scorer in franchise history.

Purpur, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, played his high school hockey at Ashwaubenon. He was voted Captain and led the team in scoring while winning the Triple Crown. (League Title, Cofrin Cup and WAHA State Championship).

Tony played two seasons of Junior hockey in the MJHL before joining the Deacons in 2001. Purpur led the Deacons to win the League Championship in 2010 and then went on to win the Deacons only National Championship that same season. Purpur most recently won another League Championship for the Deacons in 2021. 

Tony finished his career with 244 total points with 73 goals and 171 assists in 258 games or .95 pts per game. 4th behind Simon Hedeen who finished with 295 total points in 7 seasons, Matt Pearson with 259 points in 13 seasons and Andy Cote with 247 points in 8 seasons. 

Note: League stats began in 2005. 

While Tony plans to stay involved with the team, the Deacons would like to thank Tony for his leadership over the past 22 seasons.
